Learning CodeIgniter

I gave up on working with CodeIgniter. I really didn't give up learning the PHP framework, but since I am on a tight deadline and has a lot of other stuff to work on, I might as well do what I do fast and quick to get the job done faster and worry about learning new PHP frameworks later on when I get more time.

OES tsetnoC = Contest SEO

Yes another SEO Contest, I've joined, I've lost some times, I've won many times, I still want to join more SEO contest, but of course work today was not how it was before. So much going on that it is hard to keep up with contest. Although Oes Tsetnoc has already started, let's still see what I can do in a short period of time. Of course, it will be harder and considering the time devoted to this contest, I will barely have time to be competitive. But still it is worth checking and observing and seeing what can happen. Unlike all other contest I joined and have been successful in these other contest, there are a few things I plan on doing in this contest which are actually not an improvement. *lol* I just want to see how harder it will be and I am not really desperate to get a win again. The things different I will do are:

  • Non-Keyword Rich Domain
In all the contest I won, I always invested that $8.88 I paid to OnmiDomain.net for a keyword rich domain name for my contest entry. This time I will use this domain where there are no keywords in the domain, let's just see how it goes.
  • Every blog post may not always have Oes Tsetnoc in the title
In previous contest, I always placed the contest keyword  in the blog post title. I'm not doing that. I'll do it only if I feel it should be in the title. Anyway the primary purpose of this website is to really make an SEO tool called Backlink Intelligence.
  • Horde PageRank/PageRank Funneling
I'm not into controlling pagerank, always taking note of the outbound links but minimizing them and if ever I will use links, I will nofollow them. Not really my style. I will just link and link and help in the user experience not even worrying about pagerank leaks.

What will be on Backlink Intelligence?

Well all I plan is to make this into an SEO tool, specifically for backlink analysis. How I am going to do that, I really do not know yet, let's see how in the days to come.

Initial things to do before I even started this first blog post

I believe starting this out correctly is always important in SEO, so even before I made this first post, here are a few things I made sure I did before I even publish this first post. And these are:

  • Fixed my permalinks - I like the category/postname format. It helps people know what section of the site they are in when the category is there. And give search engines a nice IA which I believe is essential for good future site links. I don't want wrong permalinks to be indexed from the start and I need to fix them, worry about 301s and all that stuff.
  • Add "www" in my default URL - This is a cPanel Fantastico installation. Thus by default the URL has no "www." I just like it in there, so I added it before URLs without the www get indexed.
  • Updated my Ping List - Not really a ranking factor thing but if I want to get indexed faster and be known that I exist, I will have WordPress ping some sites from a long list of websites in my ping list in various places to get crawled quickly.
  • Number of post set to 8 - Default is 10 blog post appear before you see page 2. I changed it to 8 for no SEO reason. I changed it to 8 because 8 is my lucky number. *lol*
  • Feeds set to summary - I don't like full text as my RSS feed, I'd rather do summaries so splogs that syndicate my content does not cause a bunch of duplicate content out there.
  • Enabled Gravatars - Commenters like seeing their face if available so I enable Gravatars. :) This is to make my blog more inviting to comment on.
  • Set the Blog to be Crawlable to Search Engines - Wow, the default was set to private. So I changed it so search engines will take notice on my first post.
  • Installed the Google XML Sitemaps Plugin - The only plugin I installed before I did my first blog post is the XML Sitemap plugin, so at least the XML sitemaps are present and ready for submission already.
  • Installed all free analytics I can get a hold of - Google Analytics, Quantcast, Alexa, even Site Meter, probably unnecessary, but it is still nice to look at these numbers. I also added some Crazy Egg in there.
  • Delete Hello Dolly - Sorry, I never really understood this plugin. I just always delete it.
  • Configure Akismet and Install WP-SpamFree - So much spam in the world. Got to set it up early.

That's it, everything else I need to improve on the blog, I can work on later.
